Emilia M. Santos-Silva Dies at Age 86

Devout former JP resident, and grandmother of the late SFC Carlos M. Santos-Silva who was killed in the Afghanistan War, died peacefully in her home in Medford.

Emilia M. Santos-Silva of Medford, formerly of Jamaica Plain died peacefully on January 12. The beloved wife of the late Eufemio, formerly of Cape Verde Island, was 86.

Mrs. Santos-Silva will be remembered for her devotion to her faith and for her love of her adopted country. Her family, friends, and fellow churchgoers will sorely miss her. Mrs. Santos-Silva is survived by her sisters, Celeste and Maria Luisa of Lisbon, Portugal.

Mrs. Santos-Silva was the loving mother of Jose Nelson, and his wife Gail, of CA; Filomena de Fatima, and her husband Carlo Cutillo, of Medford; Francisco, and his wife Monika, of TN; Augusto of Waltham; Emanuel, and his wife Stephanie, of KS; and Ana and Rosa of Boston.

Mrs. Santos-Silva was the devoted grandmother of Dominick, Crystal, Jennifer, Caleb, Joshua, Emily, Ana Filomena, Cristina, Julian, and 8 loving great grandchildren. She was also the loving step-mother to Lady, Eleanor, and Luciene of Portugal.

Mrs. Santos-Silva was also the grandmother of SFC Carlos M. Santos-Silva, Jr., who was killed in Afghanistan on March 22, 2010. SFC Carlos M. Santos-Silva was survived by his wife Kristen and their son, Cameron.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Nauary 18 at 9am at St. Joseph Church in Medford. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Boston will be held immediately following the funeral mass.
