English High School's Nelson Barreiro Strikes Out 10 in Complete Game Victory

Anchored by a commanding pitching performance from Nelson Barreiro, the baseball team defeated Boston City (North) League-foe Brighton, 5-4, Friday afternoon.

Barreiro threw a complete-game seven innings while striking out 10 batters.

“It was awesome,” Blue and Blue assistant coach Kevin Glenn said about Barreiro’s outing. “He battled and never gave up. He got stronger as he went on.”

With the victory, English improves to 2-3 and remains undefeated in the league at 2-0.

The Blue and Blue fell behind early 4-0, according to Glenn, but they “chipped away,” and managed to pull out the victory in the bottom of the seventh when Frander Baez scored on a throwing error.

English will only have practice this week due to school vacation, but will return to competitive action against Latin Academy next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
