The Jamaica Pond Association and Boston Police E-13 District will hold a community meeting about recent crime in the Pondside area.

District E-13 has received an increase in complaints relative to FRAUD in the Jamaica Plain/Roxbury neighborhoods during the last three months. The complaints range from credit cards to debit cards to prepaid cards, bank checks, unfulfilled promises to provide services, etc. We are asking that all residents be mindful of these incidences and to take all safety measures to protect their property and their identity as well. In addition, we want to offer some tips to help you protect yourself from FRAUD and Identity Theft:

- Name Do not give any information out to anyone by phone
- Address It’s no body’s business only your family’s and friends’
- Date of Birth Do not provide it to anyone on the phone
- Driver’s License No body needs to see your license or know if you have one
- Social Security Number Memorize it and keep it confidential
- Mother’s Maiden Name People don’t need to know her maiden name
- Account Number Keep all your accounts to yourself
- If you are uncomfortable with a phone call that was not initiated by you, hang up or ask for the purpose of the call, but do not give them any information about the matter. Then contact the company using those numbers that you know are legitimate.
- NEVER send money to anyone you don’t know, especially as an advance payment.
- Shred documents containing personal or financial information before discarding.
- Promptly retrieve incoming mail and place outgoing mail in a U.S. Postal Service mailbox, instead of your home mailbox.
- If you didn’t play, you cannot win, thus all “Winner Notifications” are a SCAM.
- If it sounds too good to be true, it is ABOLUTELY A SCAM.
- Telephone or mail offers not initiated by you are always a SCAM.
- Opt out telemarketers calls by subscribing to the “do not call list” at 1-866-231-2255
