Dick Vacca, author of 'The Boston Jazz Chronicles', will speak on the life and accomplishments of Jamaica Plain native Jimmy McHugh. One of the most prolific songwriters from the 1920s to the 1950s, he is credited with over 500 songs including, "I'm in the Mood for Love" and "On the Sunny Side of the Street". His songs were recorded by such legendary artists as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald. Contemporary artists continue to record his songs -- Diana Krall, Jane Monheit, Michael Feinstein, Tony Bennett, or k.d. lang to name a few. Dick has one of the greatest collections of Boston jazz and will be playing selections while talking about Jimmy and his legacy.
