Owner Katerina Iliades, whose family has served the Boston Greek community for decades, says many of the foods enjoyed during Lent reflect long-standing Greek culinary traditions. “Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter when many families embrace traditional fasting foods rooted in the Mediterranean diet,” says Iliades. “The dishes enjoyed during this time — from beans and vegetables to seafood and olive oil — have been part of Greek culinary traditions for centuries.” During the Lenten season, many Christians avoid meat and dairy, turning instead to a vibrant variety of Mediterranean dishes that are naturally plant-based and deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition. Dick Vacca, author of '<a href="http://www.troystreet.com/jazz-chronicles.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Boston Jazz Chronicles</a>', will speak on the life and accomplishments of Jamaica Plain native Jimmy McHugh. One of the most prolific songwriters from the 1920s to the 1950s, he is credited with over 500 songs including, "I'm in the Mood for Love" and "On the Sunny Side of the Street". His songs were recorded by such legendary artists as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald. Contemporary artists continue to record his songs  -- Diana Krall, Jane Monheit, Michael Feinstein, Tony Bennett, or k.d. lang to name a few. Dick has one of the greatest collections of Boston jazz and will be playing selections while talking about Jimmy and his legacy.
