The Great Horned Owl Saga at Arnold Arboretum

Earlier this week the Animal Rescue League of Boston worked to rescue a baby great horned owl that fell from its mother's nest - twice.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA - On Sunday a young great horned owl was discovered at the foot of a tree at Arnold Arboretum, unable to return to its mother's nest.

The Animal Rescue League was called, but they were unable to reach the mother's nest. Undeterred, they set up a faux nest to keep the owl warm for the evening.

As the snow rolled in Monday morning, the league became concerned about the bird's safety. Using a bucket truck, they lifted the owl back to its mother's nest, where it would receive proper nursing during the storm.

The owl was reunited with its mother and siblings - it was a happy ending for all.

But wait.

The owl was knocked out of the nest a second time. Once is an accident. Twice could be a coincidence, right?

Not quite.

Mike Brammer, assistant manager of animal rescue services at the league, told the Boston Herald that they believe the owl didn't fall but was rather kicked out of the nest by its siblings.

And you thought your brother and sister were a nightmare.

The good news, however, is the owl has been taken to the Blue Hills Trailside Museum, where it will be cared for until it is old enough to be released into the wild.
