Ivan, The Cat With Deformed Legs, Still Has No Adopters

The sweet cat was abandoned by his previous owner, and the MSPCA is hoping someone will adopt the furbaby.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA — Ivan, an adorable 10-month-old tuxedo cat, has been sitting at the MSPCA's Boston shelter for two weeks now, despite dozens of visits from pet seekers to that shelter.

"The reason that Ivan continues to be passed over even as other cats are adopted daily?" said Rob Halpin, MSPCA spokesperson. "His handicap. The super social ten-month-old cannot walk properly due to malformed legs."

It was because of his malformed legs that Ivan's previous owner surrendered him.

Ivan was born without radial bones in his front legs and is also missing two toes on each front paw. His left hind leg is also deformed, making it impossible for him to walk normally. Despite living in the adoption center for two weeks after his previous owner surrendered him, no one has shown interest in the green-eyed charmer, said the release.

MSPCA-Angell adoption center manager Alyssa Krieger believes Ivan is just as deserving as any other cat, however. Ivan loves to be held and petted. "What Ivan lacks in mobility he more than makes up for in personality," she said in a statement.

Krieger hopes Ivan's story will inspire an individual or family to come by the adoption center to meet him in person during open hours.

"His physical limitations will always be there-so we're looking for the adopter who can see through that and give him the second chance he deserves," said Krieger in a statement.

Anyone interested in adopted Ivan can contact the MSPCA's Boston adoption center directly at adoption@mspca.org.
