Jamaica Plain Apartments House 30 Formerly Homeless Men and Women

The community celebrated the grand opening of the Francis Grady Apartments Saturday.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA - Formerly homeless men and women will now have an address in Jamaica Plain.

At a ceremony Saturday, community neighbors, public officials, key investment partners, affordable housing advocates and individuals who have been homeless gathered for the grand opening of the Francis Grady Apartments and the Stacy Kirkpatrick House, Maryann Marino of Jamaica Plain News reported.

The development at 459-461 Walnut Ave. provides 30 studio units for formerly homeless men and women, as well as on-site counseling, assistance in daily-living skills, job-readiness training, home budgeting, case management and crisis intervention, according to the site.

The complex is also home to the Stacy Kirkpatrick House, a 20-bed facility that provides medical assistance and relief to the homeless.

The project was funded by United Healthcare, which contributed $5.1 million through a tax credit partnership with Enterprise Community Investment approved by the state, several city and state affordable housing programs, which provided $5.3 million, and Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, which donated $3.5 million in private funding.

It was constructed at the former site of BHCHP's Barbara McInnis House, which relocated to the South End.
