Jamaica Plain Churchgoers Remember Charleston Shooting Victims

Local residents came together Thursday night for prayer vigil at Bethel AME Church.

Dozens of churchgoers came together Thursday nigh at Bethel AME Church in Jamaica Plain for a prayer vigil to remember the victims killed in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dylan Roof, 21, entered the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church Wednesday night while local residents were gathered to take part in a Bible study session. Roof is accused of shooting and killing nine people, according to police.

“This is the kind of thing, I think, that hits all of us. It hits all of us because it reminds us that it could hit any of our houses of worship,” said the Rev. Ray Hammond, of Bethel AME Church.
