Jamaica Plain Man Charged With Indecent Assault on Child at Hospital
Juan P. Cortes was placed on administrative leave from his position with the Boston Public Schools.

A 25-year-old Jamaica Plain man was arraigned on Monday for allegedly touching an 8-year-old child improperly at Boston University Medical Center on Sunday.
Juan P. Cortes was arraigned on one count of indecent assault and battery on a child, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.
Boston Police responded to the hospital at about 6 p.m. Sunday after being called about an alleged sexual assault earlier that afternoon. Police spoke to witnesses, including BUMC Police, and reviewed hospital surveillance footage before arresting Cortes.

According to Conley’s office:
“Assistant District Attorney AlexaRae Wright recommended that he be held on $10,000 cash bail and, if he posts that amount, that he be ordered to abide by a curfew, wear a GPS monitor, and stay away from all children under 16, including the victim.

“Boston Municipal Court Judge Michael Coyne imposed $500 cash bail and all the requested conditions of release.
“Cortes was placed on administrative leave from his position with the Boston Public Schools today after Boston Police notified them of the arrest. In order to protect the victim’s identity, authorities are not disclosing the relationship between Cortes and the child.”
Cortes will return to court on Nov. 26.
