Jamaica Plain Rezoning Hits Delay
Development officials announced this week the plan would not move forward for another three months.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA - A plan to rezone areas in Jamaica Plain and Roxbury to make way for new developments has been delayed three months.
In a letter this week to the Plan JP/Rox advisory committee, Boston Redevelopment Authority Director Brian Golden and Sheila Dillon, director of the department of neighborhood development, announced the decision based on feedback from community groups, the Jamaica Plain News reported.
According to the Boston Globe, city officials were expected to submit a zoning draft to the BRA this summer but will put that on hold at least until October to conduct a community review of Washington Street from Egleston Square to Forest Hills.

The plan was initially met with relative enthusiasm when it was proposed last July, though support waned after many housing advocates felt that the March 5 draft did not successfully address gentrification concerns or issues raised by residents at the six Plan JP/Rox workshops, according to the Jamaica Plain News.
