JP Families Experience Japan with Local Program

Learn more about Japan in this fun, free and education 2.5 week cultural exchange program

Explore Japan is a series of 2.5 week cultural exchange programs based in Milton. Over the past 22 summers hundreds of Boston-area families have participated, including the Wu family of Jamaica Plain. “It has been a world of cultural learning for our family, and every year is a new and delightful experience,” comments Deb Wu. The family will be joining Explore Japan for their 8th year and Cassie Wu, who first joined the program when she was 8, is working as a program staff member this summer.

During the program local families host a visiting Japanese student. In exchange their children participate in daily Japanese cultural activities at Milton High School or Pierce Middle School. In the afternoon the entire group goes on field trips around Boston together including the MFA, Fenway Park and Plimoth Plantation. For families that host the entire program, Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm is free!

“It is like Japan comes to visit us every year and teaches all of us to be better global citizens. Our family has not had the opportunity to travel abroad and this has enables our family to experience a wonderful culture,” writes Deb.
