JP's Martinez Gets New School Committee Term

Claudio Martinez of Jamaica Plain has been on the committee since 2008. The mayor appointed charter school founder Meg Campbell of Dorchester as a new committee member.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino reappointed Jamaica Plain's Claudio Martinez to a second term on the School Committee. He is the executive director of the in Jamaica Plain, where he developed several programs and grown the non-profit organization from a $100,000 to a multi-million dollar operation. He was first appointed to the school committee for the term beginning in 2008.

Menino also appointed a new School Committee member, Meg Campbell. School Committee members serve four-year terms.

Campbell is the founder and executive director of the Codman Academy Charter Public School in Dorchester. The school has been recognized by the city and state for its partnerships, and noted for the college admittance success of its students. Campbell is a Dorchester resident, who is active in neighborhood and city-wide initiatives. She also writes on education policy.

The School Committee is a seven-member board governing and setting policy for the Boston Public Schools. Any Boston resident is eligible to apply for a position. this fall before recommending candidates to Menino in December. Menino then interviewed the finalists before making his selection.
