Man Who Played Role in Jamaica Plain Kidnapping Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison

A Lawrence man was sentenced Monday to 16 years in prison for his role in a 2012 kidnapping.
Julio Gonzalez, 30, was sentenced to 16 years in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty in November 2014 to conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

On Jan. 30, 2012, Gonzalez, in a kidnapping crew led by Alfred Vazquez, held a gun to a victim and kidnapped him from a street in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood in Boston. Gonzalez and Vazquez, alongside other members Edgar Acevedo, Alberto Moreno and Deborah Torres, are all of Lawrence.
The crew demanded a $100,000 ransom for the victim’s release and, joined by William Ayala, held the victim in Lawrence for five days.

The victim was rescued in Lawrence, unharmed, after agents interceded.
Gonzalez is the second member of the crew to be sentenced. In March 2015, Acevedo was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
