More Than 600 Volunteer at Curley School MLK Service Day / Más de 600 Voluntarios Participan en la Celebración del Día de Martin Luther King en la Escuela Curley
Individuals, whole families, sport teams, teachers with their classes, all made a worthwhile holiday. / Individuos, familias, equipos deportivos, maestros con sus clases, todos llevando a cabo un día de vacación memorable.
Literacy aids, scarf making, Valentine card design, were among the many projects volunteers of all ages and backgrounds engaged in during a day of volunteer service at the .
JP resident Patricia Keegan, executive director of Boston Cares, which organized the day, told Patch that 600 volunteers showed up to work in two shifts.
“Individuals, teachers with their classes, sport teams, people of all ages... There has been a fantastic volunteer outpouring. President Obama's call to celebrate MLK Day with nonviolence and public service definitely assisted our efforts,” said Keegan.

Some of the activities available to volunteers included:
- Assemble dental care kits
- Design cards
- Mural painting
- Vocabulary-building challenges
- Create scarves
- Construct attractive indoor benches and storage units
Activities were designed to promote school pride; among them was assisting with creative decorating to brighten up hallways. Several other programs benefited from the volunteer day, including the Walnut Street Center in Somerville, which will receive the Valentine's Day cards.

In its call to volunteer at the Curley, Boston Cares announced that participants will have the opportunity to leave a lasting impression on the school and contribute to the overall beauty and function for its staff and students.

Maneras de asistir en alfabetización, bufandas, diseño de tarjetas del Día del Amor... fueron algunos de los tantos proyectos que voluntarios de todas edades y orígenes llevaron acabo en actividad coordinada por Boston Cuida A Su Gente.
Patricia Keegan, residente de JP y Directora de Boston Cuida A Su Gente, declaró al Remiendo que 600 voluntarios se presentaron en la Curley para trabajar en 2 turnos.
“Individuos, maestros con sus clases, equipos de deporte, gente de toda edad. Ha sido una fantástica demostración de voluntarismo," dijo Keegan. "El llamado del Presidente Obama a celebrar el Día de Martin Luther King con actividades no violentas y servicio público definitivamente ayudó nuestros esfuerzos.”
Algunas de las actividades disponibles para participar como voluntario incluyeron el diseño y realización de:
- Estuches con utensilios de cuidado dental
- Tarjetas deseando felicidad
- Pintado de murales
- Actividades para desarrollar vocabulario
- Bufandas
- Bancos de sentarse y unidades de almacenamiento atractivos
Las actividades fueron diseñadas para promover el orgullo de las escuela, tales como decoraciones creativas para traer más vida a los corredores.
