New Member Joins JP Neighborhood Council
Volunteer advisory board picks Orion Kriegman of Egleston Street to fill the seat vacated by Edith Murnane.

Orion Kriegman, the newest member of the JP Neighborhood Council, tells a story about finding car parts as he was clearing land for a community orchard he's helping build.
The Egleston Street resident was voted in on Tuesday to the 20-member volunteer advisory board. The recommendations of the Neighborhood Council carry weight on a wide range of issues like what kinds of development are approved and how city services are delivered.

In other action from Tuesday's meeting of the board:
- The board signed a letter (see pdf at right) urging the MBTA to include $220 million for the Arborway Yard project in its new Capital Improvement Plan. The project, which would transform the blighted area where the Arborway meets Washington Street, isn't in the plan now, and was not in the plan last year. "It's an uphill battle for this money," said Council Member Pamela Bender.
- In a Public Service committee report about the Old Stag Tavern in Egleston possibly becoming "Coco's Lounge," Council Member Michael Reiskind said the next meeting of his committee, on Jan. 4, would address the new owners' request for an entertainment license. A . The entire council approved the committee's recommendation to support Coco's Lounge's alcohol license, pending a memo of understanding between the club owners and neighbors.
