Next Phase of Overnight Work on Casey Overpass Set to Begin July 19

The work will be done between Bus Route 39 and South Street.

The next phase in the late-night demolition along Jamaica Plain’s Casey Overpass is set to begin on July 19, according to a statement from MassDOT Wednesday. While residents in the area will get a two week break from the boisterous after-hours construction, the next phase will run for over a month.

The last phase of night work was focused on the Washington Street side of the overpass. When work commences again on July 19, it will between the MBTA’s bus route 39 and South Street. The phase will last through Friday, August 21.

MassDOT says the evening work is a must in order to avoid major delays due to the would be need for rerouted traffic. Many commuters in the area complained of traffic backups during the Washington Street phase.

The state has also caught heat from residents living in the area. The construction has kept many awake at night and they’re not appreciative.

Drivers should be aware that night work is held between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
