Owner Katerina Iliades, whose family has served the Boston Greek community for decades, says many of the foods enjoyed during Lent reflect long-standing Greek culinary traditions. “Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter when many families embrace traditional fasting foods rooted in the Mediterranean diet,” says Iliades. “The dishes enjoyed during this time — from beans and vegetables to seafood and olive oil — have been part of Greek culinary traditions for centuries.” During the Lenten season, many Christians avoid meat and dairy, turning instead to a vibrant variety of Mediterranean dishes that are naturally plant-based and deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition. At Greek International Food Market, customers can enjoy a wide selection of traditional homemade Lenten meals including: Okra in tomato sauce Greek string beans (fasolakia) Stuffed grape leaves (dolmades) Giant beans baked in tomato sauce (gigantes) Bean salads and Mediterranean vegetable dishes The market also carries a large variety of Lenten pantry staples and imported Greek products, including vegan Greek pies, Mediterranean vegetables, canned and dried beans, and an extensive olive bar featuring a wide selection of Greek olives. <a href="http://www.westboroughfuneralhome.com/obits/obituary.php?id=178030" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Roy K. Millward</a>, 89, of Westborough, died Monday, May 14, at UMass/Memorial Healthcare- Memorial Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of Rita R. (Finnegan) Millward. Born in Auburn, he was the son of the late William and Annie (Weblin) Millward and was educated in Auburn schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action. Millward was employed as an assistant physical therapist at the VA Hospitals in Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury and Worcester prior to his retirement. He was a communicant of a member of the D.A.V. and AARP. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Boston Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics. In addition to his wife, he leaves one niece, Cheryl Archembeault of Auburn. He was the brother of the late Richard S. Millward. Services were held the weekend of May 19.
