Owner Katerina Iliades, whose family has served the Boston Greek community for decades, says many of the foods enjoyed during Lent reflect long-standing Greek culinary traditions. “Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter when many families embrace traditional fasting foods rooted in the Mediterranean diet,” says Iliades. “The dishes enjoyed during this time — from beans and vegetables to seafood and olive oil — have been part of Greek culinary traditions for centuries.” During the Lenten season, many Christians avoid meat and dairy, turning instead to a vibrant variety of Mediterranean dishes that are naturally plant-based and deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition. A section of Jamaicaway in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood was closed to traffic due to a serious crash Friday. Two people were injured.Massachusetts State Police say a two-car crash shut down Jamaicaway in both directions at Perkins and Bynner Streets.Fire, EMS and police officials responded to the scene. Firefighters were forced to deploy the Jaws of Life to remove two people from their cars.The victims were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say.The road has since been reopened.Officials at the scene also discovered a large oil slick along the roadway.
