Man Fatally Shot By Police on Boston's Silber Bridge

Suspect had several outstanding warrants in the area.

An adult male suspect, with numerous outstanding warrants in the area, was fatally shot by police officers near the campus of Boston University, officials confirmed Friday afternoon.

The Massachusetts State Police say they were searching for the individual due to an array of outstanding warrants in Roxbury District Court.

BU campus police officers spotted the wanted man and attempted to bring him into custody. The suspect fled and led officers on a chase through Boston’s Esplanade and out onto Storrow Drive.

The pursuit came to an end on the Silber Footbridge near Back Street.

The knife-wielding suspect was met by a state trooper on the bridge. After the man ignored repeated orders to drop his weapon, the responding officer was forced to shoot and kill the suspect.

Police are not revealing the identity of the deceased at this time. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

The Silber bridge, which allows for foot traffic over Storrow Drive, connects the Esplanade and the area near Boston University’s campus.
