Surrounding Boston Communities to Run Franklin Park Mile

All funds earned at Sunday's race will benefit the Franklin Park Coalition.

Residents from the surrounding communities of Boston are coming together to run the second annual Franklin Park Mile this Sunday at noon.

The race begins and ends near the intersection of White Stadium and Playstead in Franklin Park.

The race has four waves that will go off at 20 minute intervals starting at 2 p.m. The waves are divided by women, men, a youth race, and a family fun run.

An awards ceremony will start at 3:30 p.m. The top male and female runners in each age group will receive awards. Prizes will also be given to the top finishers from the surrounding neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury and Jamaica Plain.

Pre-registration costs $12 and will close at midnight on Friday. Runners under the age of 17 receive free entry when registered. Race day registration will be limited and costs $15. Register here.

The first Franklin Park Mile was held on Oct. 20, 2013 and had about 200 participants, according to the event website.

Last year’s winner was Pat Fullerton with a time of 4:24. The first female finisher was Kim Lockwood with a time of 6:05.

All funds earned at the race will benefit public programming offered by Franklin Park Coalition.

The race is organized by Forest Hill Runners, a running club in Jamaica Plain.
