Traffic Advisory: Protest and March To Create Delays Downtown

The following is a press release from the mayor's office. It's about the "Occupy Boston" protests against white-collar hooliganism and inequality.
"Today, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the City of Boston Transportation Department are advising drivers to plan for delays in traffic downtown and around the Financial District due to a protest march that is expected to take place this afternoon and through the weekend. The Boston Police Department is aware of the event and officers will be on hand throughout the duration of the march to supervise the activity and to secure detour routes for drivers as necessary. City of Boston officials are also working with local businesses to keep them informed throughout the event.
Protesters will gather at the Boston Common Bandstand beginning at 2:00 PM today. At 3:30 PM, the group will march the following route:

- Leaving the Boston Common Bandstand, crossing Tremont Street, to Avery Street;
- Left onto Washington Street;
- Right onto Avenue de Lafayette
- Left onto Chauncey Street;
- Left to Summer Street;
- Right onto Washington Street;
- Right onto Milk Street;
- Right onto Federal Street;
- Ending at 100 Federal Street in front of the Bank of America where picketing is expected to take place.
Further protests may take place over the weekend, specifically in the vicinity of Dewey Square. City of Boston officials and the Boston Police Department will closely monitor the situation and drivers will be updated with additional information as it becomes available.
