LEXINGTON, MA — More than 130 residents had to be moved over the weekend following a major power failure at a nursing home, according to the Tewksbury Fire Department.
The residents at CareOne in Lexington were safely transported to neighboring facilities in a "massive, coordinated regional effort by departments and EMS crews from across the state," fire officials said.
CareOne at 178 Lowell St. had been experiencing power failures during the previous few days before the major event Saturday night, according to WCVB 5-ABC.
A small number of residents who required acute care were taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. Many others were moved to nearby facilities or picked up by family, WCVB 5-ABC reported.
CareOne said that a "street-level power failure impacted our facility" and that staff helped residents relocate to other facilities.
