📰 News we're reading

1. CHIRP CHIRP: New Urban Mini Forest and Pollinator Meadow Opens (insidelowell.com) — A new mini forest and pollinator meadow has just opened in Lowell's Centralville neighborhood, turning underused land near Robinson Middle School into a dense, fast-growing habitat corridor. Funded by a state biodiversity grant and designed by Lowell planners, the CHIRP project adds thousands of trees, bee hotels, educational signage, and seating, giving residents and students a nearby place to experience nature and learn about environmental stewardship.

2. More Lowell residents request traffic calming on their streets (lowellsun.com) — A Pawtucketville resident's push for speed bumps on Laurie Lane is spotlighting how Lowell's traffic calming program works and how long changes can take. With a citywide 25 mph limit and a formal petition process, officials are weighing where to add speed humps and other safety measures as more neighborhoods demand slower, safer streets.

3. MassDOT: $17.6M Route 110 project aims to improve safety, reduce speeds (wcvb.com) — Drivers using Route 110 between Lowell, Dracut, and Methuen are enduring months of construction as MassDOT narrows lanes, adds buffered bike lanes, and installs new speed-feedback signs to slow traffic and improve safety. The $17.6 million project, including new median islands and upgraded warnings, is expected to wrap up next summer, so disruptions will continue for now.

4. Middlesex Sheriff's Office Celebrates Successful 25th Season of its Youth Public Safety Academy (thereadingpost.com) — Middlesex Sheriff's Office has wrapped up the 25th season of its Youth Public Safety Academy, which drew more than 500 kids from across the county, including Lowell. Cadets learned about law enforcement, fire safety, first aid, and more, with the Lowell Health Department teaching summer safety and hydration as part of a broad lineup of community partners.
