1. Annual Security and Fire Safety Reports Now Available (uml.edu) — UMass Lowell has released its latest annual security and fire safety reports, giving students, staff, and nearby residents a detailed look at campus crime statistics, fire incidents, and emergency procedures. The reports outline how the university handles threats, sexual offenses, and evacuations, and paper copies can be requested from the UMass Lowell Police and Life Safety and Emergency Management departments.
2. River Hawks Ranked No. 10 in Hockey East Preseason Poll (goriverhawks.com) — UMass Lowell's River Hawks hockey team will start the 2026–27 season ranked No. 10 in the Hockey East preseason coaches' poll, giving local fans an early sense of expectations. After a challenging 2025–26 record, they'll open at home against Clarkson on October 9 at the Tsongas Center, offering Lowell residents a chance to see how the team measures up.
3. UMass Lowell Launches Office of Community Engagement (insidelowell.com) — UMass Lowell has launched a new Office of Community Engagement to better connect the university's resources with partners across Lowell and the Greater Lowell region. Led by alumna Emily Byrne, the office will coordinate community partnerships, support student experiential learning, and invite local organizations and residents to share ideas and collaborate through forums and an online feedback form.
4. Man charged with fentanyl trafficking after fatal OD at Tewksbury motel (lowellsun.com) — A Lawrence man has been charged with fentanyl trafficking and cocaine distribution after an undercover operation tied to a fatal overdose at a Tewksbury motel, with the case handled in Lowell District Court. Investigators from multiple agencies coordinated a controlled buy in town, seized drugs and cash, and secured high bail while federal authorities placed an immigration detainer.
