Today's riddle: What do you call a one-legged Big Foot? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. "We Remember Them" (insidelowell.com) — Families in Lowell now have a dedicated place to remember loved ones lost to violence at the new Greater Lowell Garden of Peace atop Fort Hill Park. Unveiled on the National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims, the garden features a central stone monument and will soon be surrounded by personalized bricks, with residents invited to dedicate bricks or join the project's community group.
2. Keene Named Lowell's Interim Fire Chief (insidelowell.com) — Lowell's Fire Department is under new interim leadership, with City Manager Tom Golden appointing longtime firefighter David Keene as interim chief following Phil Charron's retirement. Keene, a three-decade LFD veteran, says his priority is maintaining and advancing the level of fire and emergency services residents expect while the city launches its search for a permanent chief in October.
3. Gift establishes endowed John F. Kennedy head hockey coach position at UML (lowellsun.com) — UMass Lowell hockey just received a major boost, with alumnus John F. Kennedy committing $2.5 million to permanently endow the River Hawks' head coach position. The gift, paired with a matching one to UMass Amherst, secures long-term resources for the Tsongas Center program and continues Kennedy's long record of investing in the Lowell campus and its student-athletes.
4. Lowell man indicted in Boston crash that killed unborn baby (lowellsun.com) — A 23-year-old Lowell man has been indicted on manslaughter and related charges after an August crash in Boston that seriously injured a pregnant driver and led to the death of her 26-week fetus.
