On Sunday February 9, 2014 Lynnfield Little League will be holding tryouts for players with a “League Age” of 9-12. League Age is defined by the player’s age on April 30, 2014. Tryouts will be help at the Route One Sports Plex on Route 1 North. (The old strike One) . The tryout process will be as follows:
- Players will arrive at the designated times listed below.
- League Age
- 12 Year-Old arrive at 12:30
- 11 Year-Old arrive at 1:30
- 10 Year-Old arrive at 2:30
- 9 Year-Old arrive at 3:30
- League Age
- Players will check in and receive a pinny (shirt with number on it.)
- Players will sit in the stands
- Players will be taken in groups of 20 onto the field and into the dugouts
- Each individual player will stand at the Short Stop position and will field 3 ground balls and make the throw over to first base.
- The player will then take the position in the outfield and will field three fly balls
- Player will return to the stands
- Once all players have gone through the fielding portion, each player will be brought back to hit
- Players will attempt to bunt at a ball
- Players will be given somewhere between 5-8 swings
- Player will run out their last swing to first base
- Player will return their pinny
- Player’s tryout is over and can head home
Parents, please explain to your child that the Managers of the Major and Minor Leagues are using this tryout in order to evaluate the different talent levels throughout our league. I understand that some kids will place pressure on themselves in order to try to “do good”, but please explain that this isn’t always about making the play perfectly. What I mean by that is coaches will look at how a player moves to field a ball, or possibly how he is swinging a bat. A player doesn’t necessarily have to hit each pitch that is thrown his way. Coaches will look at his stance, and how he actually swings the bat. We may make a note to work on eye hand coordination for a particular player, but that doesn’t mean the player will score poorly. Hopefully this gives you some insight into how coaches will score the players.
We will move the players through as quick as we possibly can in order to fit all of these players into this 4 hour time slot.
