MarketStreet Lynnfield To Add Renowned Japanese Handroll Restaurant From NYC

LYNNFIELD, MA — A contemporary Japanese handroll concept from restaurateur Kevin Liu is headed from New York City to MarketStreet in Lynnfield this fall.

The will mark its first North Shore location of Matsunori and the brand's first suburban expansion.

MarketStreet said Matsunori will open adjacent to Sweetgreen and across from The North Face. It is expected to open in September.

The restaurant specializes in handcrafted temaki-style handrolls made with globally sourced seafood and ingredients, served individually to preserve freshness, texture and temperature.

Its menu includes tuna and salmon handrolls, along with items such as Hokkaido uni, bluefin tuna belly, Kaluga hybrid caviar, and A5 Miyazaki wagyu.

The concept centers on what Matsunori describes as a "more fish than rice" philosophy. The restaurant said it emphasizes balance, freshness and craftsmanship instead of oversized rolls or heavy sauces.

The Lynnfield location is designed to have an intimate space designed to match its handroll-focused service, with guests served each course as it arrives.

"From the beginning, we wanted Matsunori to feel approachable while still offering something guests might not expect to find," said Liu. "Whether someone is trying a spicy tuna handroll for the first time or enjoying Hokkaido uni and A5 Miyazaki wagyu, there's a sense of discovery that comes with the experience.

"MarketStreet immediately stood out because of its atmosphere, strong dining mix and sense of community, and we’re excited to bring that experience to the North Shore."

Liu's latest opening follows the debut of Mai, his French-Japanese izakaya in Boston's Seaport. For Matsunori’s first suburban move, Liu selected MarketStreet after building the brand in Boston and New York City.

Matsunori joins other restaurants at MarketStreet, including Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse, Alchemy and Chicken & The Pig, along with seasonal pop-ups.
