Along with raising money for Lynnfield High School athletic programs, this year’s LAA July 4th 5K road race will also help support the One Fund.
Linda Rugato of the Lynnfield Athletic Association reports that the annual road race, which starts at 9 a.m. at town hall (55 Summer Street) on Thursday, July 4. This marks the 46th year of the event, which typically raises five or six thousand dollars for scholarships and equipment for LHS students.
The LAA will donate 5 percent of this year’s race proceeds to the One Fund. Rugato has also offered free registration to the Lynnfielders who ran in the Boston Marathon this year. Three of them have accepted the offer to run, but they also reportedly chose to donate their $20 registration fees anyhow. (Registration is $15 for runners under 17.)
After a moment of silence for the bomb victims, the marathon runners are expected to lead off the race. Rugato has also extended an offer to Lynnfield’s firefighters to run for free. She said that six of them were in last year’s race.
