Coming of Age

There comes a time in every athlete's life when he or she turns a corner and takes it to the next level. Today was quite possibly that time for Joseph Soares. Ray Bourque once said, "Goals live on the other side of obstacles and challenges. Be relentless in pursuit of those goals, especially in the face of obstacles. Along the way, make no excuses and place no blame." Joseph must have taken this to heart as Game Captain today because not only did he read it to the team, he lived it. Joseph netted the Stars' first hat trick(4 goals by him total) of the season and played an outstanding game all around. Game pucks are not given out on the Stars specifically for goals scored, they are given mostly for effort. Joseph earned the game puck for his hustle and effort today. The goals were just a bonus! A hockey team doesn't go far without a strong backbone in net. Jack Glowacz provided that today and stood on his head against another barrage of Melrose shots. This team seems to be starting to gel. Brendan Heffron netted two of his own today. One of them came from jamming  home a rebound off a shot by a familiar line mate. The number of shots on goal from the Stars during this game says it all. They are starting to "get it". Could this be the coming of age for the Mite A Stars team? Next game vs Cape Ann should be interesting!
