Excavator Signals The End Of The Ship
Lynnfield restaurant torn down, ending its long run as Route 1 fixture.
Looking more like a shipwreck that a famed ship, one of Lynnfield's most famous landmarks was torn down Monday.
The Ship Restaurant, a fixture on Route 1 since it opened in 1925 as a refreshment stand, served its last meal in January. In March, the insides were auctioned off. On Monday as cars raced by, a solitary yellow excavator did its work, tearing down the famed red ship.

It will soon be replaced with retail space, a coffee shop, and a bank. The same fate also happened to longtime Route 1 fixtures the Hilltop Steakhouse and Weylu's, which were both torn down in 2015.
