Four Engineering Firms In Running For Fields Contract

Selectmen received six or seven "very strong proposals" for engineering services on site of future athletic fields complex.

One of the next steps in creating an athletic fields complex in Lynnfield will be to select a firm to provide some preliminary engineering services on the 98.5 acre site, which is located off Main Street near Middleton and the Bostik plant.

At this week's selectmen's meeting, town officials indicated that four engineering firms have been selected to compete for the contract. Earlier this spring, town meeting voters approved the use of $100,000 from Lynnfield's sale of real estate fund to pay for these initial services, which will include surveying the current layout of the wetlands there. That money is expected to be replaced when the town receives expected funds generated from the Market Street at Lynnfield project.

When they meet on Thursday evening, members of the town's athletic fields committee are expected to interview representatives from the following four firms:

"They are very anxious to move forward," said Town Administrator Bill Gustus. "I know the board is very interested in moving forward as well."

After committee members select a firm from the group of four, Gustus, in his role as chief procurement officer for the project, will begin negotiating a contract with the chosen company.
