I, Tonya: Margot Robbie to Play Tonya Harding Role in Biopic

Robbie will play the woman who many deem responsible for injuring Lynnfield resident Nancy Kerrigan.

LYNNFIELD, MA—The story of the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships has been told many times, but not often from the perspective of Tonya Harding.

Actress Margot Robbie has been designated to play the embattled and disgraced figure skater in the biopic I, Tonya, according to a report from Deadline Hollywood. Harding of course was viewed as responsible when her husband Jeff Gillooly ordered a hit on Stoneham native and current Lynnfield resident Nancy Kerrigan.

According to the report, writer Steven Rogers did extensive interviews with both Harding and Gilooly. Kerrigan later went on to win the silver medal at the Olympics and Harding was banned from figure skating for life.
