ICYMI: What's Open, Closed in Lynnfield For the Fourth of July Holiday

Friday, July 3, is a federal holiday.

July 4 - the legal public holiday for Independence Day - falls on a Saturday this year. Most federal offices and some will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Here is what’s open and what’s closed on Saturday, July 4: 

  • Retail stores: Open at owner’s discretion.
  • Liquor stores: Open.
  • Supermarkets: Open.
  • Convenience stores: Open.
  • Taverns, bars: Open.
  • Banks: Closed.
  • Libraries: Closed.
  • Stock market: Closed, July 3
  • Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed July 3
  • Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only.
  • MBTA: Note: All subway lines, bus routes, Commuter Rail lines, and boats/ferries will operate a regular weekday schedule on the observed Independence Day holiday of Friday, July 3. On July 4, beginning at 2 p.m., subway service on all lines will operate at rush-hour levels to accommodate increased holiday ridership. Fares will be free after 9:30 p.m.
