LHS Softball Runs Away With Home Opener
Pioneers beat Ipswich, 13-1, going to 2-1 on the new season.
The LHS Pioneer softball team won big in its home opener on Wednesday, beating Ipswich 13-1.
Pitcher Melody Mancinelli went to 2-0 on the young season, giving up five hits and one unearned run while also recording two walks and three strikeouts.
The offensive performance featured 18 hits. Players Jackie Whelan (2 runs, 2 stolen bases), Julia Goldstein (3 runs, 1 double) and Samantha Shapleigh (2 runs, 1 stolen base) all had three hits each while Amanda McQueen (1 RBI, 1 Run) and Jade Palladino (3 RBI) had two hits each. Sarah Flood (2 RBI, 2 runs), Julia Eliopoulos (RBI) and Mancinelli also got a hit each.
Wednesday's victory gives the team a 2-1 record for the year. They won their first game against Newton South, 3-0 and then lost 3-2 to Newburyport. Up next, both the varsity and JV softball teams have games scheduled for Friday at LHS at 3:45 p.m.

Also, the LHS softball players are having a fundraiser on Tuesday, May 15 at the Prince Pizzeria on Route 1 Saugus. Patrons who bring in a voucher (one will be posted on this website soon) will have 25% of their meal check donated to the program. There will also be a silent auction featuring various donated items from the community.
