LHS Student Playing Key Role In 'Chicago' This Weekend

Production runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday as part of Stoneham Theatre's Young Company.

When the curtain goes up this weekend over the Stoneham Theatre Young Company production of "Chicago," one of the key roles will be performed by a student.

Lexi Orphanos, a sophomore at Lynnfield High School, will be playing Roxie Hart in the production, with showtimes at the Stoneham Theatre on Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.

Orphanos has already performed in other plays, including playing Gloria in last fall's LHS production of "Mame." She is also playing Maisey in the school's forthcoming fall show "The Boyfriend."

She has been involved with theatre since fourth grade, and the Stoneham Theatre since fifth grade.

"I'm definitely not as experienced with acting so singing is more of a forte," Orphanos told Lynnfield Patch. She also plays a little guitar and currently takes voice lessons with of Lynnfield and dance at East Coast Dance in North Reading.

"I definitely would love to major in musical theatre," she said, explaining that she has already begun the process of learning what to expect in the field, such as the level of competition.
