Republican State Committeewoman Monica Medeiros announced today that she will not seek a fourth term on the Massachusetts Republican State Committee citing a desire to focus on more localized endeavors.
“My goal has always been to make Massachusetts a better place to live. Everything I have done has been toward that end,” Medeiros said. “For now, I feel I can be more effective focusing on my duties here in Melrose,” she said referring to her role as a Melrose Alderman and current Chair of the Appropriations Committee.

Medeiros is finishing her third, four-year term as the Republican State Committeewoman for the Middlesex and Essex District representing all of Lynnfield, Malden, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and Wards 1-5 of Melrose.
“I am extremely grateful to Monica for her twelve years of service as a State Committee member,” said House Minority Leader Brad Jones. “Her tenacious approach toward public service and her commitment to community outreach are just a few of the many qualities that have made Monica’s work both effective and heartfelt. While I am sad to see her leave this post, I know that she will continue to champion the causes close to her heart.”

“With Senator Scott Brown’s election, we did what was thought unthinkable and sent a Republican to the US Senate,” said Medeiros when asked what she was most proud of during her time on the state committee. She continued, “and since I began in this position, each one of the six city and town committees in my district has doubled, or tripled in size.”
“I helped lay the groundwork and plant the seeds for this newfound optimism in our Party, and perhaps we have finally rid ourselves of the defeatist attitude we carried for far too long,” she said.
In addition to her grassroots efforts, Medeiros has had a laundry list of personal accomplishments throughout her tenure. She has been chosen by her peers to serve in numerous leadership positions, including being elected to serve as the regional representative on the Budget Committee and to four consecutive terms as Vice Chair of her region. She was elected as an at-large delegate to the Republican National Convention and as a presidential elector for Senator John McCain in 2008.
Medeiros stressed that she will still continue to be an active member of the Melrose Republican City Committee and in the Party in general. “I do not intend to stop working hard to improve the community I live in,” she said. “I will always be looking for ways we can do better.”
Monica Medeiros is currently running unopposed for a third term as the Alderman for Ward Two in Melrose. She previously served on the Melrose School Committee.
Every four years, voters in the Presidential Primary elect one man and one woman in each state senatorial district as their Republican State Committeeman or State Committeewoman. The eighty members act as a board of directors for the Massachusetts Republican Party. They elect a Chairman, approve a multi-million dollar budget annually and serve as the liaison to the local ward, city and town committees. They are also charged with candidate recruitment and often act as the local spokesperson for the Party.
