Lynnfield Boys' Hockey Ready For Saugus

Pioneers set for quarterfinal-round matchup with surprising Sachems.

While much of the tournament focus has understandably been on the boys' basketball team, the guys on the hockey team sent a clear message Tuesday night: don't forget about us.

Lynnfield, the lowest seed in the Division 2 North tournament at No. 13, stunned No. 4 seed Winthrop Tuesday, 4-0, in the first round. With the win, Lynnfield improved to 11-8-2. More importantly, the Pioneers advance to a quarterfinal matchup with Saugus on Friday night at 8 at O'Brien Rink in Woburn. Like Lynnfield, No. 12 seed Saugus pulled off an upset Tuesday when it beat No. 5 seed Methuen, 4-3.

The shutout was the Pioneers third this season.
