Lynnfield Musician Working To Keep An Art Alive

A longtime Lynnfield resident is set to make his jazz singing debut this Sunday evening, August 12, at the Lily Pad in Cambridge.

Adam Hashian, 23, grew up in Lynnfield and last year became a call firefighter in town. He works full time in real estate and has taught jazz music lessons over the past couple of years.

Sunday's gig is from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lily Pad, 1353 Cambridge Street. In a recent conversation with Lynnfield Patch, Hashian noted that he will be backed up by a highly distinguished quartet of jazz musicians for the show. Joining him will be Charles Farrell on piano, Mark Shelford on guitar, Bruce Gertz on bass, and Patrick Simard on drums. "It's really like an all-star band and I'm really lucky to be playing in front of them," said Hashian, who will be singing selections from the Great American Songbook.

Hashian only began singing last year but he also plays the drums, guitar and piano, some of which he learned from his father, former Boston drummer Sib Hashian. "It's always been kind of in my blood," said Adam. Looking ahead, Hashian replied that he will probably do some other gigs, although this is the only one scheduled for now. He also said he planned to put some recordings on iTunes soon. "I didn't feel I was ready to perform in public until maybe a few months ago," said Hashian.

"I'm trying to bring back a tradition and keep an art alive, to keep the true spirit of the art alive," said Hashian.
