Meet the Contractor: LoConte Painting
For this series of posts, I will be interviewing some of the contractors that I know and recommend, who just happen to live right here in Lynnfield.
With the warmer weather right around the corner (hard to believe, but true!) a lot of us are trying to finish up our interior projects, while beginning to plan on tending to our homes curb appeal. Whether you are still working on redecorating the inside, or are getting ready to tackle the outside, hiring a professional painter is often at the top of the spring to-do list.
This winter I hired to cross some of the interior paint projects off my list. I have also recommended him to many design clients who have been very happy with their results. I asked owner, Chris LoConte, to answer some questions for my “” series.

How long have you been in the business of painting? What do you like most about it?
I have been painting for close to ten years. What I like the most about painting is the ability to transform a space from old and drabby, to new and more alive! Taking the client’s vision from start to finish with cans of paint and expert hands is what it’s all about.
What sets LoConte Painting apart from other painters?
It’s hard to choose between our meticulousness and our level of customer service. Being meticulous with a brush is not enough. We know that being aware of and attending to clients’ needs must come first. We pay close attention to communicating with clients about any changes in schedule or otherwise. It’s also important to us to arrive on time, to wrap up the job when predicted, and to leave no mess behind.
What interior colors are your clients asking for these days?
Earth tone colors are still the mainstay: taupes, creams, and grays. Clients are aware that with neutral colors, even those deep and rich neutrals, color can be added by accessorizing, offering the homeowner more flexibility in their style. In addition, accent walls (painting one wall a different hue) are often requested as a way to bring in a different – sometimes more striking – shade.
What is your favorite type of paint for interiors?
Benjamin Moore’s “AURA” Interior Paint
Exteriors?
Benjamin Moore’s “Arborcoat” and Sherwin Williams “Duration”
Deck refinishing?
Benjamin Moore’s “Arborcoat”
Benjamin Moore has mastered both interior and exterior solutions with their AURA and Arborcoat collections. I also use Sherwin Williams for some outdoor projects. All are smooth and cooperative, and offer a beautiful, level finish.
How long does a typical exterior paint job take? How about an interior room with trim work?
Exterior work is nearly impossible to predict as weather conditions play a factor. While some painters take chances and paint over damp shingle, I will not compromise the quality of the work, and prefer to wait, if necessary. Indoor work also depends on the size of the room, and the prep work necessary to yield the best possible finish.
Do you change the colors in your own home a lot? What is your favorite color?
We have all Benjamin Moore paint on our walls, including “Atmospheric,” “Dinner Party” and “Weimeraner.” Our favorite would have to be “Atmospheric” with its warmth and sophistication. We have changed the living and dining areas three times in the past twelve years, and have so appreciated what a change in color can do for the feel of our home!
