The word around town is that bald eagles have begun nesting at one or two spots near Suntaug Lake in Lynnfield. This is significant because it shows that their population continues to rebound after being pushed to the brink of extinction less than a lifetime ago. Just two decades ago, it was a pretty big deal when bald eagles were reported nesting at the mouth of Merrimack River up by Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, which isn't bad in its own right for outdoor photography.
This photo was sent in by Lynnfield resident Suzy Julian, who reports ample eagle and heron spotting opportunities from her home near the lake. Tomorrow, this website will feature a full gallery of Suzy's photos, so be sure to check back in and check those out as well.
