Pioneer Singers return to Montreal

Group took part in festivities commemorating both the 375th birthday of Montréal and the 150th anniversary of Canada.

The Lynnfield Middle School Pioneer Singers returned to Montréal, Canada for their annual performance tour in May.

The group served as guest choir at the Westmount Park United Church and returned to the famous Notre Dame Basilica for two performances. They also attended a production of Cirque du Soleil’s latest production Volta and took part in the festivities commemorating both the 375th birthday of Montréal and the 150th anniversary of Canada.

The Lynnfield Middle School Pioneer Singers are the advanced student singers and musical ambassadors of Lynnfield Middle School in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. The group was created in 1998 for the world premiere of Walter Robinson's interracial gospel opera Moses at Boston's Cutler Majestic Theatre. In addition to their appearances in two Moses productions, the group has sung throughout Greater Boston and New England. Known for their renditions of the American and Canadian National Anthems, the Pioneer Singers have been selected to perform for the MENC National Anthem Project, the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, the New England Revolution MLS soccer team at Gillette Stadium and other area sports teams and organizations.

The Pioneer Singers have served as guest choir for services at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and St. Malachy’s Church (“The Actor’s Chapel”) in New York and the St. James United Church and Westmount Park United Church in Montréal.

Their tour performances have taken them to major venues in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Williamsburg, Montréal and Toronto. Their diverse choral repertoire includes original commissioned music by prominent Boston composers. As one of the most active school choirs in the region, the Pioneer Singers have also received honors from the Massachusetts State House for being outstanding representatives of the Lynnfield community.
