RMLD Announces Electricity-Wise Options
Reading Municipal Light Department offering two new eco-friendly options for its customers.

The following is an announcement from Reading Municipal Light Department:
Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) has two environmentally friendly choices for customers who want to support renewable energy and save energy at home.
The first option is our GREEN CHOICE program which offers all customers an active choice to benefit the environment by supporting electricity production from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, biogas and biomass.

Those who make the GREEN CHOICE voluntarily pay as little as $3 a month to support the production of electricity from renewable energy sources in New England.
Although it is impossible to distinguish and deliver energy to specific homes or businesses, customers who make the GREEN CHOICE will guarantee that renewable energy is added to the New England power grid.

Another option is our Residential Time-of-Use A2 rate. The rate saves money if you can shift much of your home’s power use away from on-peak hours, which are noon to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. RMLD’s June-July newsletter In Brief incorrectly identified the hours as 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., former hours associated with this rate. RMLD regrets the error.
To use this option, you need a time-of-use meter installed at your home.
Shifting electricity use to off-peak times helps hold down local power costs, and also benefits the environment by lessening the need to run our region’s least efficient generating plants.
