Stellato Can't Beat The Monster

Lynnfield third baseman Mike Stellato had plenty of support at Fenway Park Saturday night, just not enough long balls over the Green Monster.

In the preliminary round of the High School Home Run Derby, the Endicott-bound slugger took 10 swings plus a bonus ball but accumulated five points, ranking him 7th out of 10 competitors (12 pts highest). Billy Butler of Ponagagansett High School in Rhode Island won the event.

According to organizer Frank Carey, all the hitters had difficulty adjusting to the slow speed of the machine (60 mph) but it was an enjoyable day for all the participants. Stellato and his Lynnfield teammates open MIAA tournament play Sunday at home against Saugus.
