Step Up To Plate For A Shot At Fenway's Green Monster

Come to Lynnfield High May 7 for High School All-Stars Home Run Derby.

If you're a high school baseball player have we got a challenge for you.

The Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association, in conjunction with the John Hancock Fenway Fantasy Day, are hosting four High School Sectional Home Run Derbies. All are scheduled for Sunday, May 7, between 1-6 p.m. with the North contest held at Lynnfield High School.

Each player will have access to the batting cage to warm-up, take a few warm-up pitches on the field and then swing at 11 pitches to accumulate points for homeruns, balls of the fence, and quality hits (the last being the double bonus ball).

In addition to the home run derby, Massachusetts high school teams can also participate in the High School All-Stars program and qualify to bat and field at Fenway Park. Teams with the top fundraising for the Jimmy Fund will have the opportunity to participate.

One winner from each location will advance to the New England Home Run Derby Championship at Fenway Park, June 3. Other sctional locations are Xaverian High School in Westwood (South), Millbury High School (Central) and Bullens Field in Westfield (West). Jeff Costello of Buckingham Browne & Nichols is the defending champion.

All proceeds from the pledges and donations will go to Dana Farber Jimmy Fund. There's a $10 registration fee and players can register here.
