Lynnfield Resident Receives Distinguished Scholar Award
Optikos CEO, Stephen D. Fantone, Ph.D., Receives University of Rochester Distinguished Scholar Award at 2015 Doctoral Ceremony
WAKEFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Optikos Corporation, a leading provider of optical engineering services and products, is pleased to announce that President & CEO, Stephen D. Fantone, Ph.D., received the Rochester Distinguished Scholar Award at the University’s 2015 Doctoral Ceremony on May 16, 2015.
University Provost Peter Lennie commented that Dr. Fantone, who was educated at MIT and The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester, “has devoted his career to applying the modern understanding of light in ways that have brought innovative technology to the American public.”
Dr. Fantone’s contributions to the optics industry include developing proprietary products and technologies that have resulted in more than 65 patents for Optikos and its clients. Fantone’s contributions have been noted by organizations such as The Optical Society (OSA), on whose board he served for more than two decades.

In presenting the award to Dr. Fantone, University President Joel Seligman stated, “Your dedication to excellence and innovation as an engineer, scientist, and entrepreneur serves as an extraordinary example to all who are inspired to pursue their intellectual passions.”
Acknowledging the award, Dr. Fantone described an early academic inspiration and role model, and challenged graduates to “continue to stretch and imagine what you might become—and pursue that vision. Whether it takes you to a new field or geographic setting, do it with purpose, passion and intensity.”
