Then And Now: Partridge Island Boardwalk
Each week, Lynnfield Patch will run images from the town's past and compare them to what stands at that spot today.

It's hard to believe that it's been almost 40 years since the nation's Bicentennial celebration in 1976. With July 4th right around the corner, this week's image from the files of the Lynnfield Historical Society is in order. This image shows the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Partridge Island Boardwalk back in the summer of 1976. It was a time of awesome sideburns, great rock music, bad fashion, and proud patriotism.
In separate research many months ago, I came across this image elsewhere and know that one of the people shown here - possibly the man cutting the ribbon - is Bennett Keenan, . The rest of the names were not immediately available the second time I came across this photo and scanned it. If anybody knows some of the other locals shown here, feel free to make note of it in the comments section below.
Photo galleries of the boardwalk area, , appear on this website from time to time. This website has also reported in the past on work to restore the boardwalk, which as of last summer, once again provides access to Partridge Island.
