The SL Stars M1 and the Danvers M1, two undefeated teams, walked into the posh confines of Kasabuski Arena to decide first place overall in the VHL M1 North Division. The Lynnfield M1 Stars team put on a clinic today consisting of passing, skating, shooting, and overall team play and would emerge as the winner to capture the #1 spot. Lynnfield jumped out early when Drew Carney took a sweet feed from his winger and stuffed it home. The Carpenter brothers were in sync today too, with the hard working Jack wearing the hat while Jay popped in one of his own and provided some grit in the corner. Jay was also our captain today, quoting Wayne Gretzky to the team...”You miss 100% of the shots you never take”. Another set of brothers, Will and Aidan Norton, played their usual skilled game, rifling shot after shot behind a stunned Danvers goalie. Their passing was on the money as well, setting up too many scoring opportunities to count. Yet another set of brothers put in 100% effort as usual. Cam Sullivan played a stellar game on defense while imitating Bobby Orr with several rushes. Timmy Sullivan used his quick hands to maneuver through the Danvers players and find the back of the net a few times, one of them on an amazing slide pass from Jack behind the net. Timmy would earn the coveted game puck today. Anthony Grabau was dripping sweat after this one and for good reason. Anthony came flying back to break up several rushes as well as drive to the net for spectacular goal. D and D were definitely fired up for this one. Dylan Damiani always seems to be in the right position and makes heady plays. Involved in multiple goals and some great defensive plays, Dylan uses his hockey sense to get his linemates focused. Dillon Reilly’s shifty hands were on display and he just missed on a quick roof shot near the end! Teams don’t go far without a good goalie. Jimmy Driscoll turned aside several tough Danvers shots and covered up the puck at just the right times. At close to midway through the season, the Lynnfield Stars sit alone atop their division. They have been playing some unbelievable hockey lately and this one was no exception. If they continue to put in the effort and play as a team, can they be beaten? It’s a long season and only time will tell but right now they are unstoppable!
