VIDEO: Organizing The Lynnfield 9/11 Memorial

Amanda Mello speaks with Reverend Dennis Bailey, the leader of the town's 9/11 day of memorial.

Reverend Dennis Bailey has been a Lynnfield minister since October 2006. Prior to this position he worked as the Fire Chaplain in Billerica while serving a pastor at the Billerica's First Congregational Church.

As the Lynnfield Fire Department Chaplain, Reverend Bailey works to support first responders to a fire alarm and their families. If there is an fire or incident in town, Reverend Bailey is also responsible for talking with and supporting the victims, offering them a chance for prayer. In the event of a fatality, Reverend Bailey will lead a prayer over the deceased.

Reverend Bailey is also the minister at the , which is located next to the . He began organizing the remembrance event for the September 11, 2001 victims back in March of this year. "It's important to show people that in a tragedy like this we will respond, we will come together as needed," Bailey said on the reason he felt strongly about a ten year anniversary memorial event.

In the first video clip, Reverend Bailey recalls his trip to Ground Zero soon after the attacks as part of a group of Massachusetts fire chaplains. In the second video, he discusses his memories from first learning about the attacks. And in the third, Bailey discusses what he hopes to see come of the memorial observations in Lynnfield and elsewhere.
