The last article written about this Stars team mentioned that they were about to break out and then nothing could stop them. Well, it happened today with a big 11-9 win over first place Melrose! Stars' captain, Stevie Migliero got things going with a quote from Wayne Gretzky, "Hockey is a unique sport in the sense that you need each and every guy helping each other and pulling in the same direction to be successful". Stevie lived that quote today, wearing the hat with three hard working goals. Linemate Cam Sullivan popped in a goal and assisted on one of Stevie's. Tim Sullivan and Brendan Heffron recorded multiple assists today with some heavy duty corner work, digging pucks free and finding their open linemates. The next line fed off their teammates' effort and continued with the barrage on a stunned Melrose goalie. Joseph Soares kept up his torrid scoring pace with a hat trick of his own. Jimmy Driscoll wreaked havoc in the corners, breaking up multiple would be rushes by Melrose. Two players on this line had the best games of their short hockey careers. Mike Murphy ate his Wheaties before this game, working hard and following the puck to jam home a grinding goal. Abby Travers had her best game of the season. Not only did she break up multiple scoring attempts by the opposing team but she popped in her first goal of the season with some extra effort in front of the net. The four players on the next line were not to be outdone. Dion Sacca stopped multiple rushes cold with some stellar defense. Anthony Grabau also played his best game of the season, breaking up a sure goal, making some amazing passes, and almost finding the back of the net with a great shot. Brothers Jack and James Glowacz again showed some impressive work out there today. Jack had another multiple goal game with some incredible feeds from James. These two continue to develop their awareness of each other on the ice. A team can score a ton of goals but if they can't prevent them the wins won't happen. That's where goalie Jonathan Soares comes in. He stepped up and showed some flashes of Tuukka Rask, calmly deflecting shots into the corner and tying up loose pucks. In a tight game Jonathan was the difference. For his extra effort he earned the game puck! Wins and losses aren't talked about much on this team. They know hard work and effort are the keys to success. This was a special win though and they deserve to savor it for a little while. They have been on the edge of greatness and this could prove to be the beginning of a new streak for the Mite A Stars!
