Why Martial Arts is different
Why Martial Arts is different and what it can do for your child -

In last nights class, I enlisted a bright young man in our dojo- to help me identify why martial arts is different than other sports - he also plays basketball and tennis in addition to attending Cervizzi's, and here is what we came up with:*Karate is an individual sport - and an individual effort - there is no team , so to speak, to let down or carry*It is non competitive - you just compete with yourself*The movements improve your other sports by developing a keen sense of eye hand coordination & footwork, increasing speed and agility too - just to name a few .*You are always learning and gaining new knowledge - once you learn the rules of a basketball game you play to the best of your ability - not really learning anything going forward - *You move up in rank -no ranks in basketball or baseball.*Prevents bullying - by building the self confidence of students to walk away or not feel the need to be a bully - *You feel important and powerful at the end of each class.*Builds self esteem - no fear of failure in letting team down.*Makes it easier to make friends and talk to people - the exercises and drills we do, develop that*Helps with presentations at schools - no fear in standing in front pf a group of people*It allows for improvisation - you can adjust your technique based on what is in front of you and adapt - There is no one way to do anything - it is fits everyone.*You can set goals for yourself - ie getting next rank - If you want to achieve next rank quicker - get to class more often and learn - *Develops leadership skills - and how to listen to people and make right decisions. These are just a few! I would like to thank Andrew for collaborating with me and giving me these great points and we felt we needed to share this - Believe it or not - A LOT of people are not aware of these benefits and consider martial arts a "sport" we do not - At Cervizzi's these are LIfe skills - not something you do in a season - but for the rest of your life!
